H&M's recycling prize

Fashion industry needs change.

Customers have a wide choice of cheap products buying more frequently and in larger quantities. It is not surprising then that those items end up in landfills after they had been worn a few times at most. Fortunately, some retailers are trying to decrease its negative impact on the environment.

Let’s have a look on the second the largest global retailer-H&M.  This fast fashion retailer cares for the environment with its Garment Collecting initiative, engaging its customers to recycle their clothes and its H&M Conscious Collection with a use of more sustainable materials. What is more H&M has launched a €1m prize for new techniques to recycle clothes. The retailer is concerned about potential shortages of raw materials such as cotton as well as wants to find a solution which would decrease the amount of clothes being thrown away. Although H&M recycles items brought by the customers to its stores, the current recycling methods make poor quality fibres, or can’t be recycled such as garments of mixed materials. Is it only a good marketing to persuade more conscious customers to shop from the retailer which claims to be sustainable? Even if that’s true, it doesn’t matter. What matters is that H&M is doing its best so fingers crossed that the new technique will be found and our environment less impacted.

What surprised everyone is that Anna Wintour showed up in his towel series. It wouldn't be that surprising if we didn’t know that she doesn’t like to be photographed and seen without her sunglasses.

If you are up to date with fashion news, you have already heard of new Thomas’s cafe opening in Burberry store on Regent Street this spring. It’s no longer a place where you can only buy luxury products or admire breathtaking interior but also chill with your friends while doing shopping. Retailers are expanding their stores offering food and beverages- Chanel, Bulgari, Ralph Lauren, Gucci just to name a few. Although it’s not that profitable, it’s inevitably more engaging experience that customers seek when shopping offline. More and more people eat out so why not to stop at the Burberry café after exhausting day of shopping, or maybe have a break to think through that cashmere poncho purchase. It offers all day menu of British classics including cured salmon with scrambled eggs, lobsters and chips, with all ingredients sourced from the best UK suppliers. If you are not good at buying presents, there is also a special area where you can buy a personalized gift for your friend. The moment she or he unwrapped it, everyone would be green with envy.
